Next Milestone for STAFF: Zippermast Passes EMC Test to MIL-STD-461G

The Zippermast has proven itself in numerous field tests and has already been delivered to the Ukrainian armed forces. To systematically strengthen the system's technical maturity and robustness beyond field trials, we launched our internal STAFF – Stability for Future programme. A key milestone on this path has now been reached: what has already proven itself in the field is now confirmed in the lab as well – the Zippermast, in the ZM_06-035 size, has successfully passed the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) test to MIL-STD-461G.

 

Why EMC Is Critical for a System Like the Zippermast

The Zippermast is not an isolated piece of hardware, but a digital interface that supplies sensors and effectors with power and data and integrates into battle management systems. This close interconnection with other electronic systems is exactly what makes electromagnetic compatibility a fundamental requirement for military use: the system itself must not emit interference that could affect nearby electronics – from radios to weapon systems. Conversely, it must operate reliably even when exposed to the strong electromagnetic interference fields that are ubiquitous in military environments.

MIL-STD-461G is the relevant US defence standard for exactly these requirements and is also used as a reference by NATO forces. It comprises a series of individual tests covering conducted and radiated emissions as well as immunity to conducted and radiated interference.

 

The Result

The Zippermast passed the required MIL-STD-461G tests without limitation. For us, this is more than a passed test: it is proof that a system already proven under real-world operating conditions also meets the electromagnetic robustness required for military use.

 

Part of the STAFF Programme

The EMC qualification is another building block within STAFF. This is not about a single test or a single component, but about systematically underpinning the system's proven performance across numerous field tests with robust laboratory evidence, and further increasing the technical maturity and robustness of the entire system. The programme is carried by all areas of the company, not just engineering and technology.
